I live in Japan, and this site is where I dig into the everyday tools, gear, and small objects that Japanese design does exceptionally well. Pens that write smoother than they should. Wallets built to last decades, not seasons. Multi-tools and pocket gear made by companies most people outside Japan have never heard of.
Why This Site Exists
A lot of “best Japanese pen” or “best EDC gear” lists online are written by people who’ve never set foot in a Japanese stationery shop or hardware store. They’re working from the same five products everyone else recommends, recycled across a dozen blogs.
I wanted to do something different: dig into the details that actually matter, and be upfront about the ones I haven’t. If I’ve personally used something, I’ll tell you. If I’m working from specs, materials, and what the community of long-time users say, I’ll tell you that too. No pretending.
